A 30 minutes walk will take you to the bottom of the fall and at Watkin's platform, you can admire the spell-binding views of the surroundings. Shivgange Falls : Shivganga Falls located near Sirsi in Shimoga in the state of Karnataka is a haven for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. Swimming is allowed here. The falls are not accessible by road but rather by trek only, which brings the element of adventure here. Kunchikal Falls : The Highest Waterfall in located near the Masthikatte-Hulikal on the Shimoga -Udupi border in Karnataka. The waterfall from a height of 455 meters in a cascading form on these rocky boulders giving an impressive sight. The Kunchikal waterfalls rank 116th in height in the world and India’s highest waterfall. Gudavi Bird Sanctuary : A Sanctuary by the Side of a Lake: A haven for avid bird watchers, Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is home to around 48 species of migratory birds including white ibis, Indian shag, little grebe, little cormorant, and others. The sanctuary is located on the banks of Gudvi lake and is spread across an area of about 0.75 sq km. The beauty and rich biodiversity of this place attract tourists from near and far. The best time to visit the Gudavi Bird Sanctuary is between June and December. During this period, you can spot numerous species of birds. This sanctuary is one of the most visited tourist spots in Shimoga . Agumbe is titled “cherrapunji of the south” because it receives the highest rainfall in southern India. How to reach Shimoga: From the state capital Bangalore, Shimoga can be reached on road by on NH-206. KSRTC, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, runs several buses from Bangalore, including Hitech and night services. Shimoga is around 274 km (170 mi) by road from Bangalore. From the coastal side, Shimoga is accessible by bus or car. This route passes through Agumbe Ghat or Balebare Ghat roads. Mangalore, Sringeri, Dharmasthala, Udupi, Hubli are connected by Road to this city. Shimoga is better connected with roads from all directions and as such, it is an important bus junction.
